Characteristics and production of thermowood :
During thermal wood treatment, the wood is heated to temperatures between 180 and 230° Celsius in the absence of oxygen. This greatly reduces the wood’s ability to absorb water, and wood-degrading fungi and bacteria lose their food source. This increases the durability of the wood. All wooden parts of the barrel sauna (apart from the bases, window and door frames, fascia boards and patio boards outside) are made from Nordic thermowood.
- particularly long shelf life
- insensitive to rot
- Reduction of swelling and shrinkage
- Reduced chip and crack formation
- the wood remains very dimensionally stable
- Improvement in carrying capacity
- Water absorption is greatly reduced
The thermo wood treatment gives the wood an even, brown color that turns gray like all other woods under UV radiation. We therefore recommend treating the wood with a wood preservative stain.
New: The glazing is now also available in mirror glass for an additional charge (if you have any questions, please contact our sales team)!
